Data Catalog
Which Data Catalog does UNCG use?
UNCG uses Collibra Data Intelligence Cloud. Collibra is a single source for all UNCG data governance and stewardship activities, and where metadata about institutional data assets are defined, cataloged, and governed. Why is the Data Catalog Important?
Like a library catalog, a Data Catalog provides a record that describes a data asset (such as a report or business term). A patron may use the library’s catalog to search for a book by title, author, or key terms that identify the book’s availability, format, or other information about the book, as well as discovering similar materials linked to the record by subject headings or publisher information.
A user of a Data Catalog can similarly locate information about data assets, such as the name, description or definition, data lineage, ownership, and relations to other assets. Such information can aid in a deeper understanding of the asset and also identify other assets the user might have need of. Much like the library’s catalog, a Data Catalog is a single source for discovering information resources (i.e., data assets), information about those resources, and how to access them and similar materials.
