What is Data Governance?
Data Governance is a framework that allows an organization to make decisions about its data more effectively and efficiently. We do this by developing strategies, policies, standards, guidelines, and processes that balance the business needs of UNCG’s data users with the need for secure data architecture and infrastructure.
Data Stewardship
Data Governance is accomplished through data stewardship. Data stewardship is responsible oversight and protection of institutional data by formalizing accountability for the management of data and data process activities including:
- Operational oversight
- Data quality management
- Policies, standards, and processes
- Metadata collection and management
- Privacy, security and risk management
